Betcha didn’t know…………

April 29, 2009

29 Apr

That the town of Weed is mentioned in the first chapter of John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men”
That the totem pole in Ray’s parking lot marks the beginning of the “start” of the Alcan or Alaskan Highway.
That Mt Shasta is California’s tallest volcano at 14,160 ft.
That Lava Beds National Monument has over 500 caves, the largest known concentration of lava tube caves in North America.
That the town of Weed has tunnels under the streets.
That the Weed Bakery on Main St. uses a brick oven that has been in use since 1917.
Did you know that?:)

And… Weed is one of the friendliest little towns on the I-5 corridor. It’s a great place to land for a getaway because it’s in shooting distance of everything – Lava Beds, Mt. Shasta, Shasta Valley cycling roads. And you can pick up a great picnic sandwich at Ellie’s (love their bread) and be back in time for dinner at the HiLo.
