The Weed’s School Hill Holiday lights has been an icon in the community for decades, but due to age, the tree of lights has been dark for five years.

The estimated cost of repairs is $2000.00

The Weed Chamber of Commerce is asking the communities’ support and donation to Light Up Weed for the Holidays!

Please call or stop by the Cabin to donate and see how close we are to get Weed lit by Thanksgiving!

Weed’s Old Fashioned Christmas

The Weed Chamber of Commerce presents the Annunal Old Fashioned Chirstmas Tree Lighting Friday, November 25th at 6:00p.m. Come enjoy food and drinks with live caroling from local choirs at the Centennial Plaza, 550 Main Street in Historic Downtwon Weed .

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be arriving right after the tree lighting to meet the boys and girls. Bring your own camera to take free photos of your children with Santa!

Have a Safe AND Fun Halloween!

Halloween is one of the best times of the year. It is when adults get to be kids and kids get to be anything they want! Make sure your Halloween is fun AND safe. Each year, there are many Halloween safety tips, which are stressed by local law enforcement agencies, and for a good reasons. Following their advice makes sure everyone has a great night, stays safe and has fun all at the same time. Don’t forget to think about “Fido’s” safety, too!

SAFETY TIPS

Always go out in pairs. Groups are better!

Place a temporary bracelet on a young child marked with their home phone number.

Tape glowsticks to the back of children’s costumes

Use glowstick bracelets

Substitute glowsticks in place of candles in your indoor jack-o-lanterns

Give children small flashlights to use

Map out a route, including timings, and stick to it!

Carry cellular phones or pagers

Check all candy coming into the house

Head to the mall or school function rather than strange neighborhoods

Try to stay around a neighborhood where you know the people.

Light up your doorstep well and remove items that may cause children to trip or fall.

Keep your dogs well inside the house, away from the door, children and decorations.

Its almost Halloween. Please be aware of the small children trick or treating this Halloween night. Darkness will fall early.

Polenta Dinner

The Weed Son of Italy’s annual fundraiser of a scrupish dinner of polenta, chicken, green beans, salad, dinner roll and desert starts with “social hour” at 5:30 p.m. and dinner start at 7:00 p.m., October 22, 2011. After dinner, there is a raffle of hand crafted gifts, beautiful baskets, wine, and much, much more. Tickets are $12.00, with children under 10 years old free, and can be purchased at the Weed Chambers Cabin or call 938-2864. Weed Son of Italy’s Lodge is located at 155 Clay St Weed, CA

Comedy Show in Weed

November 5th, starting at 9:00 p.m., the Blackbird Events will host a comedy show to help support the Weed Pride downtown projects with Bay Area comedians Justin Scales and Caitlin Gill and local Weed Dale Anzo at the Black Butte Saloon. After hours of laughing, stay and enjoy good vibrations of local DJ Annihilation and guest star DJ Seth’s blends of hip-hop turnrablism and the electronic sound of the underground.
Ticket are $14.00 and pre-sale are available at the Black Butte Saloon, Stephanie Shaver (530) 925-5921 or Janelle Boatright (510) 395-1449. Buying you ticket now is recommended, for they are hot and are selling fast. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Weed Pride and their downtown beautification projects!

Golf for a Cause!

The Weed Gold Club is hosting a Golf Tournament that all proceeds go to the effort to eliminate breast cancer. The 18- hole event has a four person scramble shotgun start and everyone is eligible to play. Entry fee of $42.00 for non-members and $30.00 for WGC members and entry forms can be picked up at the Weed Golf Club. Sign up is at 9:00 a.m. and tee off is at 10:00a.m. With Raffle Prizes and an $8.00 lunch (that you don’t have to be playing to buy!), comes to the beautiful course at 27730 Old Edgewood Road and enjoy a great cause, a yummy lunch and our wonderful fall weather! C.O.S Rural Heath Sciences Celebrates!

The College of the Siskiyous Foundation’s challenge was to raise $370,000 over a five year span when the fund raising campaign kicked off October 1, 2006. Today we will cross the finish line with a total endowment corpus of approximately $1.1 million thanks to our generous donors plus our partners, the McConnell Foundation and a Federal Title III grant, which matched the contributions dollar for dollar. Earnings from the corpus will be used to support the RHSI in order to keep it equipped with state-of-the-art training aids in the years to come.

Kevin made it to Asheville!

Kevin In the Smoky Mountains

Kevin Citta had done it! He has bicycled from Weed, CA to Asheville NC, more than 4,000 miles for the Make A Wish Foundation, known as “Biking For Wishes“. Starting on June 1st 2011, Kevin biked through Death Valley in California, viewed the Grand Canyon in Arizona, passed the Continental Divide in New Mexico, made it though the hot and dry Oklahoma, camped in the Ozark National Forest in Arkansas, went over the Mississippi River on the way though Tennessee, and enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. Stay in at cabins, hotel, churches, and camp sites, Kevin made many new friends on his trip, including dogs, frogs, bugs, birds and deer!
